Kunnath Kalam Homestay, Charming cottage on a farm. OUR COTTAGE... ….is situated a little apart from the main residence, to grant distance and privacy, yet in "safe" proximity. Built in the traditional Kerala Style, it consists of one central room (24 qm) with windows opening to all 4 directions to let in the breeze, a west veranda with kitchenette and dining place for the sunsets, an east veranda facing the sunrise and the landscape (each app. 16 qm). An open air bathroom is attached to take a shower under the stars. We furnished it using the natural local materials of clay, forest wood, hand-woven and vegetable dyed cotton fabrics, old traditional wooden furnishing, and old style mosquito nets. It is equipped with a good internet connection, fans, coffee/tea cooking facility, an additional induction cooker, a fridge and hot water for a bath. The cottage is surrounded by wood and meadow, by frangipani bushes and pineapple plants, by sun and shadow. Easy chairs` and hang mat invite you... We very much care for hygiene and cleanliness (but still: we are in the tropics and the sight of an cockroach for example cannot be excluded) and environmental responsible usage of our natural resources. We are a german-indian family happily living on our 12 acre organic farm in a semi-rural area of Kerala between the sea and the mountains, we grow organic coconut ,bananas, mangos , vegetables and cultivate the old rice varieties; a part of our compound is forest. We have cows, cats, hen and dogs. We run on solar and cook with biogas. Our delicious, mostly vegetarian, Kerala dishes are made of the good stuff from our farm. Our living house is an outhouse of the former landlord of the area, and at 50 steps distance is our charming cottage for guests, where they have their privacy and still are near to the life of the place. Guests can roam around and observe our daily life works, hang around in the kitchen, explore our compound, take walks through the village, the rice fields, the hills. Or make trips to the nearest town, visit the famous university of Performing Arts Kerala.aakalamandalam, walk in the sunset on the banks of the Bharata Puzha river, visit a temple town or an elephant camp. And, according to season and availability, visit temple festivals, religious rituals or marriages, where you will always be welcome. It’s up to you. We are around, and as we have a farm with animals, barely leave...so we will see each other
